World Omori Championship

World Omori Championship – 世界大森級選手権試合
Omori Dream Fair Certified World Omori Championship – 大森夢フェア認定世界大森級選手権

The World Omori Championship is defended once every October at DDT’s annual “UTAN FESTA” show held outside Tokyo JR Omori Station. The championship was originally named after the Omori Dream Fair festival that is held every year in Shinagawa. This is why the championship is sometimes referred to as the Omori Dream Fair Title. However, the annual title defence tradition did not exist until four years after the championship was established. The title became dormant when Daichi Kakimoto’s career ended in 2008. Kakimoto kept possession of the belt and even wore it while working shifts at the Drop Kick Bar. The title was reactivated in 2009 when Danshoku Dieno was collecting championships in order to participate in an octuple crown match at DDT’s first Sumo Hall show. It was only when DDT began running “UTAN FESTA” at the JR Omori Station that they came up with the idea of a yearly defence at that location. There is usually a Battle Royal held on the same show to determine the following year’s challenger.
