The power of friendship spurred DDT’s team to go all the way and win the 2017 Differ Cup! Pro wrestling’s farewell to Differ Ariake was represented by the return of the inter-promotional Differ Cup tag team tournament. Konosuke Takeshita said he wants to use this victory to push him towards making DDT the best and strongest wrestling company in Japan. He also took satisfaction from beating Katsuhiko Nakajima’s team in the final, gaining a little revenge from Nakajima beating him four years ago at “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2013”. Takeshita’s tag partner Yuki Ueno was thrilled to win his first tournament and wants to evolve even more as a wrestler. He said Nakajima’s kicks were so painful that he thought he was going to die.

Naomichi Marufuji, HARASHIMA & Kappa Kozo were accompanied by Kozo’s middle aged father. He wore a YOSSHA shirt so the fans chanted “Masao” at him, thinking it was Masao Inoue in a kappa costume. The father got involved to protect Kozo from Ryota Hama but he ended up getting squashed by Hama too.

Mike Bailey failed to win the Impact X Division Title from Taiji Ishimori. He missed the Ultima Weapon and Ishimori capitalised with the 450 Splash to win.

Danshoku Dino convinced Go Shiozaki & Mitomi Masayuki to go along with him and together become The Three Danshoku Brothers for the night.

A press conference was held in DDT HQ to announce the stipulations for the DDT Extreme Title match. Soma Takao showed up but the champion Daisuke Sasaki was absent. Hisaya Imabayashi called Sasaki on the phone to find out where he was. Sasaki admitted he was at his home sleeping and the phonecall just woke him up. He told Imabayashi that any match stipulation is fine, quickly picked a No DQ Match and then hung up. Takao was so angry at Sasaki’s behaviour that he grabbed a chair and threw it at the phone on the table.

There were no interpreters available to translate for Mike Bailey so he used Google Translate on his phone to speak to Tetsuya Endo. Bailey said Endo is a strong wrestler, he is very smart but also very angry. Bailey thinks if he can stay calm then he can beat Endo. He calls Endo one of the best high flyers in DDT. Bailey wants to prove he is the best high flyer. He said all of this into his phone but the Japanese translation was difficult for Endo and Imabayashi to understand. Bailey’s idea took them by so much surprise that they both struggled to keep in their laughter. Endo took out his own phone and spoke into it, translating his message to Bailey in English. He said Bailey is a good wrestler but also one pattern (I think he means one dimensional). Endo thinks it will be an easy match for him.

The four teams all appeared at a press conference held in the SKY PerfecTV Media Center to give their thoughts on the Differ Cup. Konosuke Takeshita & Kota Umeda are the youngest team in the tournament. Takeshita wants to show everyone that DDT is the strongest group. Ueno is thankful to get such a big opportunity going into his second year as a pro wrestler. Jun Kasai said he chose the newly debuted Tomoya Hirata as his partner to give him some experience. Kasai has faith that Hirata is competent enough to rely on even though he just had his first match a few days ago. Hirata hopes to beat Takeshita. On the NOAH team, Hitoshi Kumano said he already has a lot of good memories wrestling in Differ Ariake. He wants to win this tournament as an act of gratitude to the venue. Katsuhiko Nakajima wants himself and Kumano to wrestle together with pride. Tatsuhito Takaiwa mentioned he was a runner up in the first Differ Cup. He wonders what the tournament will be like now that heavyweights are allowed to enter. Sean Guinness says his team with Takaiwa is called Team Highball because they both drink Highballs together after training.

Mike Bailey found out that Taiji Ishimori recently won the X Division Title in Canada. Bailey wants a title shot if he can beat Ishimori at the Differ Cup. Imabayashi will check with NOAH to see if that can be done.

Yuki Iino has been out of action for the last month because of an old elbow injury from his days playing rugby. After a medical examination it was discovered Iino fractured a ligament in his elbow and also has damage on the right side of his ulnar nerve. He will continue to miss shows for the time being. The Miraclians are not taking their first challengers lightly. Yuka Sakazaki lost to the Super Milk Combination in a non-title tag match last week. She sees them as a giant gate to climb over. Shoko Nakajima also knows that the challengers’ team name is not a gag, it’s a description of their strength. Nonoko & Yuna Manase want to use their big chests to overpower the champion team’s speed and technical abilities.

Hyper Misao is back in action after an ACL and meniscus surgery took her out of action for over 10 months. Her debut match took place in Shinjuku FACE so her return match in the same venue feels like a re-debut. Rika Tatsumi is her chosen opponent. They went to see the movie “IT” together recently and Tatsumi had to restrain herself from figuring out what Misao’s match strategy will be.

The conflict over Ken Ohka’s money continues. Daisuke Sasaki tried to withdraw all of Ohka’s money from the bank this week but discovered his account was empty. When Sasaki crashed a Ganbare☆Wrestling show to get an explanation both he and Ohka found out that Yumehito Imanari took out the money to both protect and invest in it. Sasaki and Ohka agreed to a tag match on this show where the winner takes it all. Ohka got his money back and brought it to DDT HQ to count all of it. Hisaya Imabayashi confirmed that 691,619 yen is the full amount being put on the line. Sasaki chose Tetsuya Endo to be his partner while HARASHIMA offered to help out Ohka, both because he is a friend and also so he can fight Sasaki before their DDT Extreme Title match.

Sasaki has decided his match with HARASHIMA will now be a TLC Match! He says in pro wrestling you have to fight using your own physical body. Sasaki admits that HARASHIMA’s body is better than his own so that’s why he’s bringing in tables, ladders and chairs to swing the odds in his favour. That’s not to say HARASHIMA is new to the stipulation. He won the KO-D Tag Team Titles with KUDO in a TLC Match way back in 2003.

The circumstances surrounding the next KO-D Tag Titles defence are not good but Shuten-dōji still wanted another shot. The previous match prematurely ended when KUDO suffered a concussion from a fluke collision with Naomichi Marufuji’s knee. Masahiro Takanashi misses KUDO but he decided that letting other teams challenge for the titles will eventually lose him the opportunity to win the belts from HARASHIMA & Naomichi Marufuji. So he and Yukio Sakaguchi are getting their shot next. Takanashi said they are not motivated by getting revenge for what happened to KUDO. They are treating this match as a continuation of the previous match. HARASHIMA hopes that when KUDO returns they can still do a proper rematch for the titles.

DDT is taking part in the return of the Differ Cup tag team tournament. It has been 10 years since the tournament was last held. This year’s edition is being put together by NOAH, DDT, FREEDOMS, ZERO1 and the UMA Corps from IWA Japan. Although the Differ Cup was originally a Jr. Heavyweight tournament, this time around it is using an Openweight format. DDT is sending in college buddies Konosuke Takeshita & Yuki Ueno to be their representatives in the tournament. Their 1st round opponents are a yet to be decided team from FREEDOMS. Meanwhile, HARASHIMA will be in non-tournament action teaming with Marufuji and UMA’s Kappa Kozo against a team to be announced.
